The Delhi Diaries

Image
The Delhi Diaries. I was scheduled to be interviewed by the 'short service commission' board for recruitment in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) on 16 may 2013 at Base hospital , Delhi Cantonment. For me, who has never travelled beyond Mumbai in the south, and Mount Abu in the north, Delhi was something of a faraway, Distant place. Having heard numerous stories of its citizen's notoriety, and the series of recent heinous crimes committed there had made a gory image of the city in my mind. Plus, as usual there was this 'fear of unknown' before venturing into an unaccustomed place. For me, this trip was more of an adventure trip than an official one. Because, it has always been my wish to go on a hitch-hiking trip in an uncharted sea, trying to visit places on my own. Taking risks and getting to know the local world with my own eyes and experiences. This interview provided me with an excuse to indulge in the much longed for wish, at the same...

India ! Incredible India!

Been to The Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, and The Metro Museum. 3 sites, built in different time periods, by different rulers and communities, but related to each other in a clear sense . SCIENCE. 1. Jantar Mantar -- showcasing the achievements of Indian scientists in Astronomy in the pre-machinistic era. The observatory, made of 6 huge Yantras, tracking the movements of various celestial bodies, is a giant example of India's brainpower... 2. Qutub Minar -- The stone carved marvel. 72.5 metres of pure rock-hard poetry. There are Verses sculpted in Arabic along the fluted minar that look like flowers and vines. There is the famous Iron pillar located in the same complex. It has been there since the 16 century, rust-free. And is still a masterpiece in metallurgy. These both monuments, mixing science with religion, culture with architecture, pride with passion bring us a sense of pride for our nation. 3. Metro Museum , Patel chowk metro station-- T...

Akshardham Delhi : draft version.

Image
Just came back from Akshardham Delhi. A really marvellous experience. The magnificent construction, the breath taking sculptur e, the fantastic architecture, the praiseworthy management. The museum is nice, but the audio/video shows are sure to win your hearts. Even though the exhibits were similar to the Gandhinagar temple, some of them were better. The Boat ride is a 'must see'. The 'MYSTIC INDIA' entertained me again, despite my having seen it earlier at Gandhinagar Liked the Gajendra-peeth carvings. The marble sculptures adorning both the inside and outside of the temple are extremely detailed. And the Ceiling work- butterly delicate. I'm sure many people woul.d be having neck pains due to looking up the ceiling for too long. The Temple visit ended with the much talked about 'musical fountains'. To be frank, these jets of water didn't impress me as much as the G.ngr water show did . But then, they didn't charge so either. (DI...
