The Power of Dreams.
This post, conceived on the evening of 27 july 2013 was meant to be a
foresight. I had known, even in the testing times of doubt and
self-scrutiny, that there are chances, that I am gonna write this
post. This thing, in itself is the motto behind this post. . .
I remember these famous words of Shah Rukh Khan from the movie 'Om Shanti Om'.
" किसी चीज को अगर पूरे दिल से चाहो,
तो पूरी कायनात तुम्हे उससे मिलाने की कोशिश में जुट जाती है॥"
In my case, it was the PG Seat in M.D. Pediatrics in Civil Hospital
Amdavad, which I've coveted ever since I started to think about my
post graduate career. The bud of this thought, as far as I can
remember, blossomed first in my Final Year of MBBS, when, having seen
the patients of almost all branches of Healing Sciences of that level,
I started to have a bit of inkling towards Pediatrics.
Before going to the main topic, I'd like a distraction though. As I am
going to describe "HOW DID I GET WHAT I WANTED" I assume the
question-- "WHY DID I WANT THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE" deserves an
honest answer.
I have always adored Kids, liked playing with them, feeling to be one
of them, and as they have pure, yet unadultarated souls, its quite
easy to connect with them, and form a mutual bonding.
. Besides, they're beyond the vices of the world which have seeped so
deeply into the hearts of the GrownUps. Then, its basically more
rewarding to bring smile on the face of a baby, than healing an adult
who is concerned more about the physical pains and pleasures of the
body. And the satisfaction brought out from saving the life of
someone's 'apple of the eye' is undescribably immense.
Though, in monetory terms, this branch might be lagging behind the
other Hot Shot fields of Radio, or Surgery or General Medicine or Obs
and Gynec. But the significance, and the importance attached with the
field, where you're dealing with a life, whose beginning itself is
partially under your control, makes your conscience proud of your
work.
Why did I chose to see this dream, can also be answered in many other
reasons. But that I was an expert in Pedia was never one of them. On
the contrary, I being completely honest, have had a mark of Gracing in
my Final Year university examinations. You need not be an expert in
the thing you wish to achieve. Remember, everyone is born a blank
page.
Coming to the point, I'd say, the dreams you see, and the efforts you
make in fulfilling that dream really shape your lives. By Really I
mean REALLY.
I know, this thing 'follow your dreams and bla bla bla...' has been
said zillion, trillion, billion times, in speeches, books and media,
that it has lost its effect on us. But I'd like to stress upon it once
again, this time, with my own personal experience.
Paulo Coelho, in his novel The Alchemist, maintains the same theory,
with metaphors and fiction, he has managed to bring the message, that
'once you fix your resolve to achieve something , and you work really
sincererly towards it, sooner or later, you could claim it to be
yours.'
DECIDING WHAT TO DREAM
I know, seeing a dream in itself is no less daunting a task. Because,
fixing a precise target, and sticking to it all the way, is the
toughest part. Distractions will come. They're bound to come. I've had
many. At one time, I wanted to be a surgeon, at other, an
Obstetrician, even considering Radiolgist, Psychiatrist, Pathologist
in the way.
.
But these distractions are like tossing a coin. You know, what the
coin shows- Head or Tail, is not important. What your heart wishes for
when the coin is mid-air, IS more important.
The dream you see- a task of subconscious mind- reminds your conscious
minds in each possible time what you wish to achieve. The conscious
mind, on the other hand, tries to find out a way to achieve that goal.
By fixing a dream, you give your brain, a kind of motive. Something
like an object of satisfaction. And as it has been proven
scientifically, the objecti of satisfaction always leads to
stimulation and necessary action. (The Pavlov Experiment)
THE TIME.
In nurturing a dream, the time of the birth of the dream is equally
important. One has to have adequate time needed to achieve the
specific goal. That means, that the POWER OF DREAMS won't work if one
wastes a full year wandering around, and just in the night before the
NEET dreams of becoming a Radiologist !
The Third ingredient,
HOW TO FULFILL THE DREAM.
As I said, effort is a definitively must. Because the value of the
fulfilled dream is directly proportional to the effort drained in it.
.
In my case, from the start of my internship, I started to find the
ways to get where I wanted to go. Though I had kept other vistas open,
my primary focus always was on this.
In highschool, planning for my undergrad, I had gone through the same
process. And the results were positively rewarding.
