  હમણાં એક કેમ્પ દરમિયાન અમુક આંગણવાડી ના બાળકો ને જોવા જવાનું થયું. આ આંગણવાડી કોઈક સમાજસેવી સંસ્થા દ્વારા ચલાવવા માં આવે છે, જ્યાં આવતા વધુ ભાગના બાળકો ના માતા પિતા શહેર માં ચાલતા બાંધકામ માં મજૂરી કરે છે. અમદાવાદના પશ્ચિમ વિસ્તારના ગગનચુંબી સુપર લક્ઝુરિયસ થ્રી બીએચકે ફોર બીએચકે એપાર્ટમેન્ટ ના જંગલ નીચે સમાયેલું છે એક અજાણ્યું અમદાવાદ. જેમાં છે ભૂખ્યા બાળકો ના પેટની હાય. બીમાર ભઈલા ને કાખ માં તેડી ને ફરતી દીકરી નું દર્દ. કમાવા માટે પોતાના છ મહિના ના બાળક ને ભૂખ્યું મૂકી ને કામે જતી  માતાના મુખમાંથી નીકળતો એક ધીમો ડુંસ્કો . હા આ એ અમદાવાદ છે જે બહારથી દેખાતું નથી એટલા માટે નહીં કે નાનું છે, પણ એટલા માટે કેમ કે ખૂબ કદરૂપું છે. આ અમદાવાદ કે જે શહેરી જીવન ની ઝાકઝમાળ ઉપર કાળુ ડીબાંગ ધબ્બો છે. આ એ બાળકો છે જેમને બચપણ જીવવાનો મોકો મળ્યો નથી . જેનું બચપણ લૂંટી લેવામાં આવ્યું છે, મોંઘી મોંઘી ગાડીઓ માં ફરવા વાળા માલેતુજારો દ્વારા. આ બાળકો ને રમવા માટે નથી રમકડાં કે નથી શહેર ના બીજા બાળકો ને મળે એવા પ્લે ગ્રાઉન્ડ. આ બાળકો ને તો રમવાનું છે રેતી ના ઢગલા માં ,સિમેન્ટ ની થેલી ઓ ના પાથરણાં ...

Book Review: 100 Selected Stories by O. Henry

I started this book ( ISBN: 1853262412 ) on 28 February 2012. It ended on 29 march 2013, 0300 a.m. 1 year and 1 month to be exact. In the hundred gems of stories, I came across a multitude of colors of humanity, the range of characters, from each extremes, painting the tales a man tried to pen down sitting in a prison cell. I could not stop myself from admiring each and every piece of this anthology. The first and the last being the Hottest Favorite. One simply can not escape the illusion O. Henry created with his characters and plots. Playing with words and phrases as a street magician plays with smoke and mirrors. Pulling tricks of hands from his shirt sleeves, enchanting his audience each single time. And the way the stories are told- the myriad of dialects and accents, the reservoir of his wits and wisdom never running dry in the middle of any-one.
